Welcome to the Inner Circle

ALWAYS HERE (working title)

Recalling of the Elders – Sung by Hoyá degay hus Tonawanda Seneca

“Under the crust of that portion of Earth called the United States of America —”from California . . . to the Gulf Stream waters”—are interred the bones, villages, fields and sacred objects of American Indians. They cry out for their stories to be heard through their descendants who carry the memories of how the country was founded and how it came to be as it is today.”  – ― Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz.”

Always Here is a documentary series in development/production that is focused on highlighting the destruction of pre-colonial historical and sacred sites in North American and the ongoing cultural and historical erasure of Indigenous nations.

Native Americans have lived here for thousands of years prior to European contact, yet today they still struggle to gain possession of and protect their historical legacies, from ancestral heirlooms to burial grounds to Ceremonial Stone Sites. What is the reason that the ancient sites and cultural artifacts of Native Americans are less valued than those of Colonial America? Is this issue worldwide and what is the impact on our society today? Is the root cause of this prevalent cultural exclusion a Papal Bull issued by Pope Alexander VI on May 4, 1493? How are laws like NAGPRA (Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act) and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) being applied and where do they fall short. What can be done in the archeological, political, industrial and private sectors to recognize the importance and promote the preservation of these vital legacies?

We are involved with tribal leaders, tribal historical preservation officers, cultural advisors, anthropologists, archeologists, environmentalists, lawyers, educators, citizen activists and allies as we traverse this multi-layered landscape. Much of our work is investigative, requiring the documenting and filming of the inner workings of the desecrations and destruction that continues under the veil of science, private property or unbridled corporate influences. We strive to find solutions to the political, institutional and personal prejudices that continue to contribute to these ongoing travesties.  Please help us reach our $500,000 target to get to the next stage.  L’ORAGE is fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas.
